Nationwide Mercury Music Prize
The coveted Nationwide Mercury Prize for Album of the Year is an annual award for the best British or Irish album of the previous year. The overall winner of the 2008 Prize was announced at an evening awards ceremony at the Grosvenor House, London in September. The event, hosted by Jools Holland, featured performances by many of this year’s shortlisted artists and was attended by some of the biggest names from the music and entertainment industries.
Working with longstanding client Robert Lipfriend from Lipfriend Rodd and Producer Dan Ford, CT supplied the LED solution and technical video expertise for the event. The entire backdrop was built from 4032 of CT’s ultra light, versatile, semi transparent MiTRIX tiles, compiled into an impressive 50m wide x 4.5m high (225m²) design.
Richard Turner designed and operated beautifully conceptualised graphics on the evening, ensuring all bands performed to a unique backdrop. The content was delivered to the MiTRIX set using Catalyst and two Panasonic HD SDI mixers, both of which were supplied and operated by CT.
The video elements were managed and delivered by CT’s Paul Gilzene, Paul comments “This is the 5th consecutive year CT have had the privilege to work on the Nationwide Mercury Prize, MiTRIX is a great LED product and always looks impressive. One of the major plus points with MiTRIX is it’s weight, we were able to install such a vast quantity for the set as it is so lightweight, this simply isn’t possible with conventional LED.”
In addition to the main set, CT also installed two 16’ x 9’ relay screens with two Panasonic 10k projectors and numerous plasma screens, also used as relay’s in and around the venues’ Great Room and reception areas.
Dan Ford, Nationwide Mercury Poducer, says “We were delighted with the impact of the MiTRIX solution for both the audience in the room and for those watching on television at home. The versatility of the product, coupled with our confidence in CT’s ability to manage the video element of the project, enabled us to take some significant steps forward with the production of this year’s event.”
